BILLY MARTIN

Born in 1963 in New York City, Martin (aka “illy B”) is better known for his work as a musician and composer in the bands Medeski, Martin & Wood and The Lounge Lizards. Billy Martin has held an interest in visual art since childhood involving many mediums and forms of expression. His music has led him to travel widely where he was influenced particularly by African, Oceanic and Brazilian cultures. Like his music, most of his drawings stem from chance and an improvisational style. Through this technique he has created iconic images (the famous MMW logo), multimedia collages and his own style of bird portraits.
