PAUL CHALEFF
Known for colossal clay sculpture and pottery, for the past forty-two
years Paul Chaleff has been making objects in clay. After receiving a Masters of Fine Arts, Chaleff studied in Japan. He returned to the United States in 1977 where he built a studio and kilns in Pine Plains, New York. Paul began making sculpture starting in the early 1990's when he was influenced by his friendship and a series of collaborations with Anthony Caro. He is a Professor of Art at HofstraUniversity and maintains a studio and home in Ancram, New York. His work can be found in the collections of MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Artin Boston, the American Museum of Art at the Smithsonian as well as many other museum and public collections throughout the United States and abroad.
