COPPER TRITSCHELLER
Copper Tritscheller, a native of Georgia, was a Philosophy Major at Georgia State University. She pursued a life-long passion for sculpture when, 9 years ago, she began working in a Thailand foundry. It was there that she honed her skills as a bronze patinator, eventually developing a body of work about burros. "I've owned horses & love horses but when I moved to Santa Fe, I fell in love with burros, and a burro is just a humble horse with a highly-developed sense of self-preservation. In other words, stubborn. It's very hard to force or frighten a donkey into doing something it sees as contrary to its own best interest...a trait that I admire. They're curious, intelligent and inherently comedic and, like bats (another subject that interests me), very much stereotyped."
Sculptor, Colette Hosmer, comments:
"The first time I saw Copper’s work I was reminded of something I’d read a long time ago; 'When you see a fortunately composed work of art, you know it. Something in you says, “That’s it.”' Copper's highly developed sense of three-dimension, composition and scale translates to any subject matter. Attributes such as these cannot be taught -- they are innate and a necessary part of any truly successful work of art.
