CT MODERN ARTIST JONATHAN PERLOWSKY TO OPEN WITH NEW MIXED MEDIA WORKS AT THE MORRISON GALLERY IN KENT, CONNECTICUT ON JULY 25, 2009
The exhibit begins Saturday, July 25th with a Reception from 5-7 pm, and an opportunity to meet the artist and view his recent work.
The exhibit, which will run through August 23rd, includes a diverse selection of key works from Mr. Perlowsky’s rich, three-decade-long career encompassing both large-scale monochromatic pieces and smaller abstract works on paper using water-based paints and dyes.
This upcoming Morrison Gallery exhibit signals Perlowsky’s return to active exhibiting after a 19-year absence from the art scene. During this time, he continued to experiment in seclusion with both abstract and representational styles, applying a gift for precision draftsmanship to often monumental canvases.
Jonathan began to paint in his teens, rapidly receiving the kind of awards and recognition that culminated in a first solo exhibit in 1981 at the age of 28. Held at Soho-based Westbroadway Gallery, It was the first of five solo shows there. The Westbroadway Gallery was one of the first breakaway galleries to usher in the vibrant Soho art scene in New York City in the ‘70’s. It was during this era that Jonathan introduced mirror, glitter and Day-Glo pigment to minimalism. This foreshadowed a genre which continues today in the work of such celebrated contemporary artists as Anselm Reyle and Imi Knoebel.
Mr. Perlowsky attended the Rhode Island School of Design and lived and worked in both Dublin, Ireland and New York City where he continued exhibiting at the Horizon and Erotics galleries in Manhattan in addition to Westbroadway.
