Born in Silver Spring Maryland in 1968, Kevin Christison grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, later attending the University of Oregon, where he played inside linebacker for thefootball team and studied art history and eventually sculpture. After three years in Oregon, Christison moved back to the Bay Area, transferring to the California College of the Arts (formerly CCAC). He received his BFA in sculpture from the college in 1998, though he has been exhibiting his work professionally since 1991. Christison was awarded a Fulbright Scolarship in sculpture in 2002 and traveled to Bangkok, Thailand at the end of that year to begin his year-long Fulbright project at Silpakorn University. During this year he collaborated with many Thai artists, conducted lectures at Universities throughout Thailand, and finished the year with a major exhibition of sculptures and paintings at the Art Center Gallery, Silpakorn University. Christison continues to work in Thailand, dividing his time between Bangkok and San Francisco.

Christison’s work focuses on the human form, using additive and subtractive methods to alter his carefully rendered wax studies before casting them. This creates both fragmentary and expressive forms that capture the lines of the human body in dramatic states contortion or active gesture. The sculpture’s heavily worked surfaces are scored, hewn, And patinated to heighten their sense of raw vitality. His work often contains references to Greek standing Kouros figures and Roman busts, reflecting his ongoing fascination with classical figurative sculpture.

Christison’s work has been widely collected by private and corporate collections, as well as the San Francisco Museum of modern Art and the diRosa Foundation Art Preserve.
